CONNECTIVE QUIZ Flashcards
(52 cards)
Provides support, binds together, and protects tissues and organs of the body.
CONNECTIVE TISSUE
is the most abundant and widely distributed of the primary tissues.
CONNECTIVE TISSUE
make up the extracellular matrix
fibers and ground substance
THREE MAIN COMPONENTS OF CONNECTIVE TISSUE
CELLS
PROTEIN FIBERS
AMORPHOUS GROUND SUBSTANCE
MAJOR FUNCTIONS OF CONNECTIVE TISSUE
- Mechanical support
- Medium for exchange of nutrients and waste products
- Energy store and thermal insulation
DEFENSIVE FUNCTIONS
- Barrier
- Engulf bacteria
- Antibodies
THREE TYPES OF CONNECTIVE TISSUE FIBERS
collagen fibers, elastic fibers, reticular fibers
most are type 1 collagen (most
abundant protein in the body).
-Tensile
collagen fibers
strength-resistance to stretching.
tensile
contain elastin and fibrillin.
* Elasticity
elastic fiber
can be stretched, yet still, return to its original length
elasticity
contain type III collagen.
* Support
reticular fibers
network of thin fibers
support
Connective tissue is divided into four main categories
I. Connective proper
II. Cartilage
III. Bone
IV. Blood
Connective tissue proper has two subclasses
- Loose
- Dense
Loose connective tissue is divided into:
- AREOLAR
- ADIPOSE
- RETICULAR
Dense connective tissue is divided into:
- Dense regular
- Dense Irregular
- Dense Elastic
They form a loose network in intracellular material.
AREOLAR CONNECTIVE TISSUE
Consists of collagen, elastic fibers, reticular fibers and several kinds of cells.
AREOLAR CONNECTIVE TISSUE
It gives strength, elasticity and support to tissue.
AREOLAR CONNECTIVE TISSUE
- Below the skin
- Fill space between muscles
- Supports blood vessels and nerves in alimentary canal.
AREOLAR CONNECTIVE TISSUE
- Prevents heat loss from the body.
ADIPOSE CONNECTIVE TISSUE
It consists of ADIPOCYTES
which stores fat.
ADIPOSE CONNECTIVE TISSUE
. Act as a reservoir of energy.
ADIPOSE CONNECTIVE TISSUE
