Connective Tissue Disease Flashcards
(37 cards)
what are the 4 multisystem vasculitis inflammatory diseases
systemic lupus erythematosus, systemic sclerosis, sjogrens syndrome, undifferentiated connective tissue disease
what causes damage with connective tissue disease
complement activation
what are the 3 types of vasculitic disease
large vessel (giant cell arteritis), medium vessel (polyarteritis), small vessel (Wegner’s granulomatosis)
what is the general management of connective tissue disease
immune suppression, analgesic NSAIDs, immune modulating treatment, biologic medication, systemic steroids
what are the antibodies in autoimmune diseases
ANA, dsDNA, Ro, La, anti-centromere, anti-SCL-70, ANCA
what is discoid lupus
tissue changes without the blood antibodies
what are the immune complexes involved in systemic lupus
ANA, dsDNA, Ro
what systems are involved in lupus
joints, skin, kidney, muscles, blood, CVS, RS and CNS
what age group usually gets systemic lupus
females of child bearing age
what feature on the face is common with lupus
butterfly zygomatic rash (photosensitivity)
what are the dental aspects of lupus
ulcers and GA risk, bleeding tendency, impaired drug metabolism, drug reactions, increased malignancy risk, lichenoid reactions
what is the lupus anticoagulant
marker found in the blood of some patients with lupus
what are patients with the lupus anticoagulant termed
antiphospholipid antibody syndrome (primary or secondary)
what is antiphospholipid antibody syndrome characterised by
recurrent thrombosis
what is sjogrens syndrome
inflammatory disease associated with circulating antibodies
what antibodies are present in sjogrens
ANA, Ro and La
what are the features of sjogrens
dry eyes and dry mouth, oral disease caused by xerostomia
what is sicca syndrome
sjogrens only affecting either mouth of eyes
what is primary sjogrens
mouth and eyes only
what is secondary sjogrens
associated with another connective tissue disease
what is the diagnostic criteria for sjogrens
dry eyes/mouth
histopathology findings
autoantibodies
imaging
what are the dental implications of sjogrens
oral infection, caries risk, functional loss, denture retention, sialosis, salivary lymphoma
what is systemic sclerosis
excessive collagen deposition, connective tissue fibrosis, loss of elastic tissue
what does the patient with systemic sclerosis present like
cannot stretch and bind skin, haemangiomas on face, cannot open mouth wide, struggle swallowing
