1. Karisoke research centre: founded 1967 to study endangered mountain gorrillas, employs 100 people
2. Digit Fund: founded 1978, against the poaching of gorrillas, made by Dr. Dian Fossey in memory of her favourite gorrilla (Digit) who was decapitated by hunters
3. African Parks Network: founded in 2000 which manages 10 parks in 7 countries, including Rwanda - Volcanoes National Park the last habitat of the mountain gorrilla
