What did Conservatives look like under Cameron?
Taking over in 2006, he aimed to steer conservatives away from harsh public image as ‘nasty party’ and towards fixing a ‘broken Britain’
It had links to Red Toryism, centre right or paternalist conservatism favouring communitarian social policies with fiscal discipline.
Also focus on environment, “vote blue, go green” promising a “green revolution”
Described as a “flagrant capitulation to New Labour” and a “subtle continuation of Thatcherism”

Liz Truss con
Influenced by Thatcher, commited to “freedom, low taxes and personal responsibility.” Proposed curbing race Union power, tax cuts and deregulation. Would also mean lowering govt spending. Inspired by Patrick Minford’s Monetarism, wanted to recreate ‘trickle down economics’, crate ‘Singapore on Thames’.
Did not support levelling up, insisting low tax gives more disposable income, encouraging investment, to lower corporation tax crating employment.
Failed as lowering tax would destabilise after covid, foreign investment saw Uk as volatile
Sunak con
NR: reduce debt, stop boats, Rwanda plan, welfare cuts, abolishing NI for self employed,
ONC: reverse Lizz Truss tax cuts, furlough scheme, highest taxes since WA2,
Kein Badenoch con
New right: wants to ‘rewiere the state’ removing bureaucracies, also commented on level of maternity pay being high, says ‘it is not the govt that creates growth’ , conservative social policy , ‘anti woke’
