How where vinyls made?

A
  • grooves with small bumps would be printed onto a master disc as the physical representation of musics waveform
  • a mould would be made and the same grooves would be printed onto the consumer disc

How were vinyls masters and why was this a bad thing in terms of the audio quality

A
  • was limited in its ability to transfer audio from tape masters
  • too much bass would cause grooves to be cut too deep
  • too much treble can cause distortion
  • this means separate mastering would have to be done for vinyl, rolling off low and high frequencies
  • this could mean that the original mix from tape gets changed

Advantages of vinyl

A
  • people prefer having a physical product for there music
  • artist can have artistic expressions of their music along with the vinyl through album cover art on the inside and art on the vinyl itself
  • some people prefer the analogue sound, the hiss of the vinyl and pops and crackles compared to the perfect sound of digital, to the point where artist even try to recreate that sound in their tracks
