Domino Theory - did not want Japan to fall too - japan was an important trade partner with the US

Distrust of the USSR - blamed the USSR for the actions of North Korea - felt the need to fight

1 - pressure on security council - US made the largest funding
2 - USSR boycotted against UN due to china not being allowed to join - could not veto the sending of troops
