Post-modern poetry

A

From about 1960s onwards
Structure - Often free form, line breaks, chaotic
Reflects chaotic shapelessness of world
Stream of consciousness
Reflect process of thought or organic speaking
Usually intentional- reminds reader that they are outside poem and only sees what poet wishes they see
Sometimes mock readers attempts to create meaning from work
Themes - meaninglessness, lack of reality, restlessness
Existentialism - you give meaning to your life
Nihilism- nothing matters because we come from nothing
Pushes readers to view world differently
