Increased risk of breast/ cervical cancer
BUT lower risk of ovarian cancer

What are the usage instructions for the vaginal ring?
Self inserted into vagina and changed every 3 weeks with a week off
What is the mini pill?
Progestogen only pill that thickens cervical mucus and can stop ovulation
What are the instructions for use for the mini pill?
Never stop taking it even with a period
Start day 1-5 of period but can start anytime so long not pregnant and use condoms for 7days
What is the depo provera
Progestogen injection given every 3 months
What is the major side effect of the depo provera?
Weight gain
Can also lower oestradiol, suppress FSH, osteopenia

IUS IUD Implant Depo provera Vasectomy Hysterectomy Fallopian tube clips
What is the IUS?
Plastic coil with progestogen inserted into the uterus
How long does the IUS last?
5 years
What is the IUD?
Intra uterine device which is a copper coil. No hormones

5-10years
What do you need to check before inserting an IUD or IUS?
Not pregnant

What are some of the side effects of IUS
Can have unpredictable bleeding for first 6 months Spotty skin Mood changes Skin issues Breast tenderness

Irregular bleeding

Levonelle up to 72hrs after sex can get from pharmacy
Ellaone up to 5 days after sex only from prescription
IUD up to 5 days after sex or after earliest time could have ovulated
