Control Building HVAC and CW Flashcards
(21 cards)
Describe the purpose of the HVC and HVK systems
Provide Ventilation to 5 distinct areas:
Control Room
Computer Room/Instrument Rack Room
Switchgear Area (East and West)
Technical Support Center
HVK Chiller Room
Describe the purpose of the Control Room Ventilation
Provide a suitable environment for personnel - Allows for emergency isolation from environment, pressurization, and filtration
Remove equipment heat - Remove smoke or gas from Control Building areas
Describe the purpose of the Computer Room/Instrument Rack Room Ventilation
Provide a suitable environment for personnel
Remove equipment heat
Describe the purpose of the Switchgear Area Ventilation System
Provide a suitable environment for personnel
Remove equipment heat
Prevent buildup of hydrogen in battery rooms
Describe the purpose of the Technical Support Center Ventilation System
Provide a suitable environment for personnel
Allows for emergency isolation from environment and filtration
Remove equipment heat
Describe the purpose of the Control Building Chilled Water System
Provides chilled water for cooling Control Building area ACUs
Describe the system interface of the Service Water System (SWP)
Cooling for Control Building Chiller Units
Can directly provide cooling to CB chillers in lieu of chilled water
Can directly provide cooling to East switchgear ACU in lieu of chilled water
Describe the system interface of the Radiation Monitoring System
Provides radioactivity monitoring of Control Room intake air and of Control Room recirculated air
Describe the system interface of the Reactor Protection System
Generates and supplies the Control Building Isolation Signal to the Control Building and TSC Ventilation Systems.
Describe the system interface of the Domestic Water System
provides the water for humidifiers
Provides makeup water for the Chilled Water System expansion tanks
Provides a constant drip on floor drains within the Control Room Envelope to maintain loop seals
Describe the system interface of the Fire Protection Water System & Fire Protection, Detection, and Control System
The Fire Protection Water System provides fire water suppression for the Control Building and Technical Support Center filter charcoal beds.
The Fire Protection, Detection, and Control System provides detection and alarm for high temperatures in the Control Building and Technical Support Center filter charcoal adsorber beds
Describe the system flow path during a Control Building Purge
Describe operation of system under normal conditions
Describe operation of system under abnormal conditions
Describe operation of system under emergency conditions
Describe the system response to loss of electrical power
Where is the Humidifier? When does it AUTO start/stop?
Control Building 64’6”.
AUTO Start low humidity at 53%.
AUTO stop high humidity at 90%.
What do the Radiation Monitors do?
Monitor the return air flow to the suction of the Control Room ACUs. Radiation monitors alert the operator to conditions of high radioactivity levels in the Control Room air recirculated back to the suction of the ACUs.
If above the setpoint, the operator will take manual actions to rectify the condition.
Alert at 2x normal background rad level
Alarm at 4x normal background rad level
Where is the Filter Unit Supply (3HVCMOD33A/33B) and Recirculation (3HVCAOD119A/119B)? What do they do?
Control building 64’6”.
The filter supply dampers provide inlet air isolation capability for the Control Building Filter units while the recirculation dampers provide the ability to withdraw air from the Control Room spaces, filter it, and provide it to the suctions of the Control Room ACUs.
What do the Control Room Filtration Units do? What are the components they contain?
Filter out radioactive material, particularly iodine, from the Control Room air
Maintain Control Room habitability
2 safety related, 100% capacity units contain:
moisture separator
electrical heater
pre-filter
inlet HEPA filter
charcoal adsorber bed
outlet HEPA filter
exhaust fan
