Main Turbines, GS, and exhaust Flashcards
(25 cards)
What is the purpose of the Main Turbine System?
- Convert thermal energy of steam to mechanical energy to drive the Main Generator.
- Supplies extraction steam to feed water heaters for Steam Generator feed pre-heating (thermal efficiency).
- Hot reheat steam piping provides operating steam to the turbine driven main feed water pumps
What is the purpose of the Main Turbine Gland Seal System?
Seals the shafts of the main turbine and main feed pump turbines, preventing leakage of high-pressure steam from the turbine shells to atmosphere or leakage of air into the condenser under low pressure conditions.
What is the purpose of the Turbine Plant Miscellaneous Drains System?
Collects condensate from various points in the main steam cycle and directs the condensate to the main condenser, precluding component water damage and increasing steam plant efficiency.
What is the purpose of the Main Turbine Extraction Steam System?
Uses steam from various turbine stages for preheating steam generator feed water via feed water heater drains and vent system.
What is the purpose of the Main Turbine Gland Exhaust System?
Collects gland seal steam leak off as well as leak off from main steam stop valves, control valves and combined intermediate valves.
Where are the Main Turbine Stop Valves?
Turbine Building, 38’, North end, under the HP Turbine
Where is the Front Standard and what is located in it?
Located on the northern end of the turbine assembly.
Components housed in the Front Standard -
1. Overspeed trip device
2. Manual trip handle
3. Permanent magnet generator
4. Shaft Driven Turbine Lube Oil Pump
5. Turbine Lube oil indications and trip.
6. Various EHC components
What do the Main Turbine Stop Valves do and how many are there?
Designed to quickly shut off steam flow to the turbine under emergency conditions.
There are 4 of them located in the Turbine Building 38’ North end under the HP turbine.
What do the Main Turbine Control Valves, how many are there, and where are they located?
Control valves regulate or stop steam flow to the HP turbine, there are 4 of them, and they are right next to the STOP valves.
During normal operation of the main turbine control valves what is the reason we send most of the steam through 3 of the 4 control valves?
This allows 3 valves to be open further than if all 4 were open uniformly. This increases plant efficiency by reducing throttling losses.
What does the High-Pressure Main Turbine do?
What do the Moisture Separator Reheaters do?
What are the Main Turbine Intercept Valves (IV1 - IV6) for?
