What are Sperm and Egg cells?

A

they are haploid cells that contain only half the number of chromosomes of other body cells (diploid cells)

What happens during fertilisation?

A

the sperm and egg cell fuse together to form a diploid zygote cells, which then grows by mitosis into an adult organism

What is the Acrosome?

A

This is the cell at the sperms head, which contains enzymes to allow the sperm to penetrate the eggs cell membrane

Why do Sperm have lots of Mitochondria?

A

So that they can produce lots of energy for their journey, as they are the major site of respiration.

Why does the egg cell membrane change?

A

To stop the entry of other sperm.
