When cancer is caught early and is localized
- also called partial laryngectomies
- can be done laterally or horizontally
- can excise the aryepiglottic folds and epiglottis

- cut by cricoid cartilage and thyroid cartilage
- just vocal fold taken

A
- ENT performs hemi-laryngectomy
- take half of thyroid cartilage
- take vocal fold

With a Cordectomy, is the larynx functional?
A
No and the cancer often comes back
-leaves a defective structure, does not ensure safe breathing
