  • diminished sense of taste and smell
  • 70% return to work if not already retired
  • don’t let them isolate themselves
  • not necessarily change in physical activity/sex life
  • eating potentially affected
  • patient should eat more slowly, take smaller bites
  • beneficial to meet other Larys
  • address social, physical, emotional aspects
  • don’t let them “what if”
  • build relationship of trust with patient
  • monitor and empathize (not sympathize) Listen, ask ?s

  • may clinic hop looking for a different answer
  • cannot “hear you” (take advice, etc.)
