Core 1 - CPU Flashcards
(9 cards)
Simultaneous Multithreading (SMT)(Generic Term)/Hyper-Threading (Intel Term)
Allows software to run multiple parallel threads
Motherboard sizes (Largest to Smallest)
ATX > Mini-ATX > Micro-ATX (square board) > Mini-ITX
32-Bit (x86) vs 64-Bit (x64) RAM limits
32-Bit - 4GB RAM max
64-Bit - 16TB RAM max
Advanced RISC Machine (ARM)
- Extended battery life
- Lower power consumption
- Produces less heat
- Used for non-windows based system-on-a-chip configurations
LGA Socket
Land Grid Array, Intel, pins are on the motherboard
Symmetric Multiprocessing (SMP)
Requires multiple CPUs. Each CPU must be the same type and speed.
Threading
Single stream of instructions being sent from an application to a processor.
Multi-core Processors
Processor package divides the instructions to different cores, rather than the software dividing the instructions. Each core can support SMT/HT i.e. an 8 core 16 thread cpu
