A

Henry VII needed to raise money in order to go to War with Scotland, to disturb possible support for Warbeck , but Cornwall and South usually exempt from funding Scottish wars, and felt should follow Northern example

. Poverty and failed harvests , and threat of Henry closing down mines that contributed a lot to the economy of Cornwall

. Cornwall was different from England, culturally and in language and therefore felt should be treat differently, and also may have allowed them to rebel, as did not believe in Henry in the same way rest of England did

. Henry in perilous position as has already faced 3 rebellions, one of which was already tax, and facing warbeck simultaneously , and therefore could seem weak on the throne

Q

Why was it important that Devon joined and gave support?

A

Cornwall and Devon had historically been hostile, therefore the uniting of the two regions showed that the commons were willing to consort with those who they had viewed as enemies, to take up arms against the King

Q

What made the rebellion threatening ?

A

. Daubeney was not with the Royal forces heading to London to defeat the rebels, and at first did not have sufficient number of troops to properly counteract the threat - King had to employ Rhys Ap Thomas to raise men also - from 8000-20,000
. Threat of possible support from Scotland and Warbeck, which may have been more likely to be accepted than other regions due to Cornwalls nature, but also could dispute this fact, as Catholic faith of Cornish still took Great Chain of being as way to be ruled
. had supporters from clergy and MPs and led by noble who had personal grievances with Henry , as well as Cornish commissioner - shows that nobles sill unloyal and split in their support from Henry - strengthened by Stoke Battle , and Will Stanley
. Ended in Battle at Blackheath which could have risked Henrys throne and life considering events at Stoke, and may have made him seem weak on throne , pulling him into further Battle
. Murdered Provost of Penryn in Market place, who was collecting the war tax
. Rebels did not have sufficient armour or artillery in order to defeat Henry in Battle
. Henry was expecting the families in the South and South West to neutralise threat of rebels, but rebels able to pass through Sussex, Wiltshire, Devon and Kent without resistance
