Yorkshire Rebellion Flashcards

1
Q

what is the context behind this rebellion?

A

. Henry 7th wanting to go to war with France, as wanting to keep Brittanys independance, and also perhaps fears france’s expansion of territory

. Parliament votes to grant Henry 100,000 but this had to be paid through taxation

. Poor Harvests - Westmoreland, Cumberland, Northumberland all exempt due to poverty, and northern counties traditionally paid Scottish taxes

. Lancastrian King, therefore still some animosity, particularly given Henrys weak claim and instable nobility - at Stoke Battle , nobles did not chose sides until victory was obvious - unloyalty of nobles.
