Correlation Flashcards
(4 cards)
What is a correlation
Looking at the relationship between two co-variables to see if there is a significant relationship
+always uses quantitive date so results are easy to analyse
- quantitive data lacks depth and we can’t establish cause and effect
What is the correlation coefficient
A number telling us how closely the co-variables in a correlation analysis are related between -1 and +1
Close to -1 is a strong negative correlation
Close to +1 is a strong positive correlation
strengths of correlations
allows for further research to be completed based on the relationship found
easy to conduct as secondary data can often be used
weaknesses of correlations
you can not establish cause and effect as you are looking at a relationship not measurement of difference
will require further research to conclude causation
you can only collect quantitative data, any conclusion made will lack detail and understanding into the relationship
