4
Q

justify/ explain why used this directional/ non directional hypothesis

A

way in which stroop test is operationalised varies significantly between studies, therefore I have chosen a non-directional hypothesis as we are not directly replicating previous research.

Q

null hypothesis

A

there will be no significant relationship between northwestern creativity scores and time to complete stroop test and any difference that does occur will be due to chance.

8
Q

2 advantages of sampling method

A

. less time consuming than volunteer as we dont need to create advertisement, approach people available on the day
.more affordable than other methods as bilborough students aren’t paid.

9
Q

2 limitations of our sampling method

A

. available doesnt mean willing to participate
.inevitably bias sample drawn from small area of bilborough college- canteen- unlikely to be representative of whole population.

10
Q

Appropriate descriptive statistics for each variable

A

11
Q

why your choice of descriptive statistics has been appropriate

A

creativity is measured on northwestern scale 0-116 so ordinal data so median is appropriate central tendency. use median as measure of dispersion so range is most appropriate.
stroop effect is time taken to complete test in seconds, which is ratio data so I have chosen mean as most appropriate and then SD as measure of dispersion as I have already calculated mean, which is needed for SD.

12
Q

The appropriate graph and why

A

scatter graph because I have have conducted a correlation with the covariables being stoop effect time and creativity score. Scatter graph will show the strength of relationship between…

13
Q

which inferential statistical test and why

A

spearman’s rank because looking at the relationship between… As all bilborough students did both the northwestern and stroop test, the data is related. The level of measurement is at least ordinal as creativity is on a subjective scale 0-116 and strrop in in seconds.

Q

conculsions

A

as the calculated value was 0.53313, more than the critical value 0.390, findings are significant.
At p<0.05, accept the alternative hypothesis, which was that there will be significant relationship between…

16
Q

issues of reliability

A

.inconsistent method of timing stroop test when practising- dealt with by using online stroop test automatically timed.
.not following standardised procedure, order of carrying out creativity and stroop test. dealt with by deciding to do creativity test first…

17
Q

why was research reliable

A

.standardised procedure
.operationalised variables

18
Q

issues of validity

A

how to measure creativity- dealt with by using well established online test.
timing stroop test with stopwatch inaccurate, dealt with by using online test students press finish to stop timer.

19
Q

why was research valid

A

. assessed content validity by asking our psychology teacher to asses way in which we operationalised creativity and strrop… agreed good content validity.
.stroop is a well established psychological phenomenon, the test is designed to measure strrop, so good construct validity.

20
Q

ethical issues

A

fully informed consent- created consent forms…
right to withdraw- stated this in both brief statement and debrief.

21
Q

ammendments to improve study

A

gather year 12 participants not just year 13 for better population validity
use different measure of creativityto get a more accurate representation of the construct of validity eg, different questionnaire
improve test retest by asking ps to complete stroop and creativity test again to see if gain similar results.
