Lesion - Lateral gaze palsy and diplopia

CN IX - GLOSSOPHARYNGEAL

  • Pharyngeal Motor - Motor to stylopharyngeus muscle
  • Visceral Motor - Otic ganglia then parotid
  • Special Sense - Poster 1/3 Taste
  • Somatic Sense - Sensation in external auditory meatus
  • Visceral Sense - from carotid body/sinus, parotid, and pharynx

Foramena - Jugular

Lesion - Difficulty swallowing and loss of gag reflex, dec secratory fxn, loss of post. 1/3 taste, loss of sense in ext auditory meatus, possible brady/tachycardia

CN XII - HYPOGLOSSAL 

Somatic Motor - Motor to extrin/intrin tongue muscles

Foramena - hypoglossal canal

Lesion - deviation of tongue on protusion

CN III

CN III - OCULOMOTOR 

  • Sommatic motor - Eye Movement
  • Visceral motor - Pupil Constriction

Foramen - Superior Orbital Fissure

Lesion - Paralysis of most eye movement and diplopia; Pupillary dilation and loss of efferent limb corneal reflex

CN VIII - VESTIBULOCOCHLEAR (AUDITORY) 

Special Sense - Hearing, Balance, and Equilibrium

Foramena - Internal Acoustic Meatus

Lesions - Deafness, tinnitus, vertigo, unsteady gait, and nystagmus

CN XI

CN XI - SPINAL ACCESSORY 

Somatic Motor - Motor to sternocleidomastoid and trapezius muscles

Foramena - Enters Foramena Magnum and Exits Jugular

Lesion - Weakness of trapezius and sternocleidomastoid

CN II - OPTIC NERVE

Special Sense- Vision

Foramen- Optic Canal

Lesion- Blindness, hemianopia, quadrantanopia, and loss of afferent limb corneal reflex

CN VII

CN VII - FACIAL NERVE

  • Pharyngeal Motor - Motor to muscles of facial expression
  • Visceral Motor - to parasympatheric ganglia
  • Special Sense - Anterior 2/3 taste
  • Somatic Sense - sensation on pinna
  • Visceral Sense - Visceral sense from saliary glanfs

Foramena - Internal Acoustic meatus and Stylomastoid

Lesion - Weakness/Paralysis of facial muscles and loss of effent limb corneal reflex, decrease in secreations, loss of taste on ant. 2/3, and loss of ear sensation

CN X - VAGUS 

  • Pharyngeal Motor - Constrictors of pharynx, intrinsic larynheal muscles, palate, upper esophagus, and vocalis
  • Visceral Motor - to ganglia in traches, bronchi, gut, heart
  • Special Sense - Taste on the epiglottis, base of tongue
  • Somatic Sense - sensation on eardrum, ext aud meatus
  • Visceral Sense - Larynx, pharynx, heart, trachea and bronchi, esophagus, and gut

Foramena - Jugular

Lesion - Dysphagia, Loss of vocalis (hoarseness), loss of gag reflex, dec in secreatoru, loss of taste on epiglottis, dec in sensations from viscera

CN I

CN I - OLFACTORY NERVE

Special Sense - Sense of Smell

Foramen- Ethmoid Foramina of Cribiform Plate

Lesion - Anosmia, hyposmia, hyperosmia, and olfactory hypesthesia/hyperesthesia

CN V

CN V - TRIGEMINAL 

  • Somatic Sense - sensation to face, sinuses, oral cavity, teeth, eyelids, cornea, tongue, forehead, TMJ, and palate 
  • Pharynheal motor - motor to masticatoru muscles plus others

Foramena - Standing Room Only

  • V1 - Superior Orbital Fissure
  • V2 - Foramen Rotundum 
  • V3 - Foramen Ovale

Lesion - Loss of sensory of face, loss of jaw jerk reflex, masticatory muscle weakness/paralysis
