  • Written (documentation, handovers, eMAR, assessments ensuring legality and contemporaries, both understanding of paper and computer).
  • Listening skills (open questions, debriefs, patient concerns - then advocate.

_ Negotiation (de-escalation and empathy)

  • Computer skills (knowledge of program; eric, ) ACT: digital health record 2022
  • Understanding and interpretation of body language (people from NESB) - diversity.

Q

As a newly registered nurse, what personal qualities can you bring to nursing?

(skills / attribute question)

A

As a soon to be RN I understand the importance of being clear of you personal and professional qualities as this allows for growth and development. I have since asked my work colleges and self reflected.

PROFESSIONAL

  • Safe practitioner; understanding my role as a beginning nurse. Work within SOP as outlined by AHPA, NMBA, code of ethics, standards for practice. Policy’s and procedures of NSW Health.
  • Team player; able to work within a MDT, seek out information from others with more experience, person-centred outcomes are the centre this is only possible when we work collaboratively. e.g. care planning.

PERSONAL
Free from judgement; I believe an important element to nursing is to be free from judgement. This allows non bias care to be provided that is person-centred (PCF). e.g. ED I had a patient who had been presenting frequently,,, nurses did not want hum, found out he has suicidal thoughts.

Communisation: Second personal quality I believe is essential to nursing is communication; Over the course of the last three years I have developed this skill; verbal, non-verbal, listening, computer, body lang and negoation.
