What is required for cross functional teams to work?

So, in my experience, there often would be expert in some domain area but he/she would have at

1. least one backup person who can take over if necessary.
2. the QA (quality assurance) would be required to have coding skills as well as coders would be willing to occasionally help QA.
3. ProductOwner would be working on requirements gathering,
4. devLead would work on product architecture.
5. team members could contribute in requirements and architecture.

I think the spirit of Scrum calls for cross-functional teams. It is self organizing teams.

Developers would be required to proactively reach out to ProductOwner and work on requirements together.As a scrum master I make sure the team is comfortable doing so.

As Scrum practitioners we should celebrate the spirit of teamwork - what cross-functionality brings to keep the project on track towards sprint goal.
