What is culture:
A
- The way of life of a social group which involves the learning and sharing of particular norms, values, beliefs and languages.
- E.g. British culture (same enjoyments of fashion, morals and laws)

What are norms ?
A
- Social rules which define correct and acceptable behaviour in society which people are expected to conform to.
- E.g. Eating food with knives and forks.

What are values ?
A
- Beliefs we have about what is important and they allow us to make decisions on what is right and wrong.
- E.g. Obedience, respect

What are subcultures ?
A
- A ‘culture within a culture’ where smaller groups of people share norms and values.
- E.g. Hippies

What is high culture ?
A
- Culture products which are seen to have high status and are superior.
- Often appreciated by the upper-class and the higher educated.
- E.g. Going to watch the opera

What is popular culture
A
- Activities enjoyed by the majority of the population.
- Another word used to describe mass culture.
- E.g. Watch TV, watching football, reading magazines

What is global culture ?
A
- Refers to the growing trend of cultural products and activities becoming ‘universal’.
- Means that national cultures lose their distinctiveness.
- E.g. Brands (Nike), Food companies (McDonalds)

What is consumer culture ?
A
- Increasing consumption of goods and services has led to consumer culture.
- These goods are widely accessible, have high consumption and the debt and these are all regarded as norma behaviours now.
- This is encouraged and reinforced media.
- E.g. Going shopping and buying an excessive amount of clothes.

What is cultural diversity ?
A
- Refers to the variety or difference found in societies. - This can be seen interculturally (between cultures) and intraculturally (within cultures)
- E.g. The UK, intracultural through the cultures of different ethnic groups and also diversity between the different nations.

What is cultural hybridity ?
A
- A new form of culture created from combining two or more form of culture.
- Globalisation where Western culture and local cultures combine
- E.g. Brasian culture (Mixing of British and Asian cultures)
