culture influence-EVAL Flashcards
(2 cards)
one ISSUE with MEADS research on culture influences is that he may have become too INVOLVED with the tribes.
The tribes may have REACTED to her being there and CHANGED their behaviour. (investigator bias)
GUESS the aim of the study (D.C’s) and used either the SCREW/PLEASE you effect therefore CHANGING their gender behaviour.
She also conducted her OWN research meaning she could have been SUBJECTIVE in judging any of the gender roles and cultural influence.
This means she did not have an ACCURATE representation of their gender roles and cultural influences due to these CONFOUNDING variables lowering the IV of the study. This means research was LESS scientific-lower validity and objectivity which are both features of science, lowering the SCIENTIFIC CREDIBILITY of the research on…. and also psychology as a whole.
MEADS research is weak as it may have been an IMPOSED ETIC
She would have taken her WESTERN research methods and gender biases and IMPOSED them on the tribes. Means that this may NOT have been RELEVANT to them and therefore the results into the influence of culture on gender roles may NOT be accurate.
To AVOID she could have used researchers from WITHIN the culture to ADVISE on research tools that were from within the culture.
Also could have carried out the study using a DOUBLE BLIND design to REDUCE researcher BIAS when investigating the INFLUENCES of culture on gender roles.
