Superior/Proximal: Skin & Inferior Border of Mandible
Inferior/Distal: Fascia covering Superior Pectoralis Major and Deltoid

Action:

Draws Mouth Inferiorly & Skin of Neck Superiorly when teeth are clenched

Sternocleidomastoid

A

Attachments:

Superior/Proximal: Mastoid Process & Superior Nuchal Line
Inferior/Distal: Sternal Head to Anterior Manubrium & Clavicular Head to Clavicle

Action:

Unilaterally - Tilts Head to same side and Rotates it
Bilaterally - Extends Neck (Atlanto-occipital Joint), Flexes Cervical Vertebrae or Extend Superior/Inferior Vertebae to thrust chin forward. Can also Assist Respiration

A

Attachments:

Superior/Proximal: External Occipital Protuberance & Nuchal Line & Spinous Processes C7-T12
Inferior/Distal: Lateral Clavicle & Acromion & Spine of Scapula

Action:

Descending Fibres - Elevate Scapulae, Maintain against Gravity
Ascending Fibres - Depresses Scapulae
Together - Rotate Glenoid Cavity Superiorly
Transverse Fibres - Retract Scapluae & With Fixed Shoulders can Extend Neck (Bilateral) or Laterally Flex (Unilateral)
