What do antihypertensives do?
they block the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II
What are some examples of antihypertensives?
- captopril
- lisinopril
What diseases would require someone to take antihypertensives?
- hypertension
- heart failure
- myocardial infarction
- diabetic nephropathy
Why should you be cautious with a pt who receiving both antihypertensive and diuretic therapies?
Pt becomes at risk for being hypotensive and potassium levels may worsen cardiac health
Pregnancy warning for antihypertensives
Should not be used in 2nd and 3rd trimester
Captopril should be taken how long before meals?
One hour
Side effects of antihypertensives
- persistent, nonproductive cough
- angioedema
- hypotension
If angioedema occurs when taking antihypertensives, what should you administer?
Epinephrine SQ
