Definition
Stroke occurring when there is disruption in the blood supply of the brain
Types of stroke/CVA
IS( Ischematic stroke )
HS( hemorrhagic stroke )

Blockage by blood clot

Blockage by weak blood vessels & bleeding surrounding
Types of IS
- Thrombotic: Clotting in brain artery
2Emolic: Clotting elsewhere that reaches the brain via bloodstream
Types of HS
- Intracerebral Hemorrhage: Bleeding occurs in brain tissues
- Subarachnoid Hemorrhage: Bleeding in the subarachnoid space
5 Symptoms
Numbness on one side of body
Difficulty speaking or understanding speech
Loss vision Headache
Loss of balance or coordination
8 Risk factors
1.Smoking 2.High BP 3.Diabetes 4.High Cholesterol 5.Artrial fibrillation 6.Transient Ischemic Attack TIA 7.Family History 8. Age
Diagnosis
CT scan, MRI & blood tests to determine cause and extent of stroke
Treament
Medications: Clot busting drugs, blood thinners and reducing cholesterol
Procedures: Thrombectomy & Blood vessel repair via surgery
Therapy as a whole
Prevention
Modify lifestyle via: Exercise, balanced diet, Avoiding tobacco & alcohol, taking prescribed medications
