Describe CVA Cerebral Vascular Accident?
also called a stroke, happens when blood flow to a part of the brain is blocked or a blood vessel bursts
this causes brain cells to die and lead to problems with movement, speech, or thinking

- high blood pressure
- smoking
- diabetes
- high cholesterol
- heart disease
Name S/S of CVA?
- sudden weakness / numbness
- trouble speaking / understanding speech
- sudden confusion
- loss of balance
What is TIA and how is it different from CVA?
TIA Transient Ischemic Attack is a “mini stroke” that causes stroke-like symptoms but lasts only a few minutes to hours and goes away completely
The difference is that TIA doesn’t cause permanent brain damage, while a CVA stroke does
What are effects of stroke on a client’s physical and sensory function?
Stroke can cause weakness or paralysis, loss of feeling, balance problems, and trouble seeing or moving parts of the body
What are the treatment options for clients with CVA?
treatment for stroke includes medicines to dissolve clots, surgery in some cases, and rehabilitation like physical and speech therapy
