Data Flashcards
(12 cards)
What are the 4 V’s of Data?
Volume, Variety, Velocity, Veracity
What is Structured Data?
Data that adheres to a data model, conforming to a tabular format with relationships between the rows and columns.
What is the adventage of structured data?
The structure makes it easier to contextuaise and understand the data.
What is unstructured data?
Data that is not organised according to a preset data model or schema, cannot be stored in a traditional database.
What is semi-structured data?
Data that does not adhere to a data model but has some level of structure.
What is Data Integration?
The practice of combining data from heterogenous sources into a single coherent data store. The goal is to provide users with consistent access and delivery of data.
What are some common data integration strategies?
Common User Interface, Middleware data integration, application-based integration, Uniform data access, Common data storage.
What is Common User Interface?
A Data Integration technique where managers manually handle every step of the integration, from retrieval to presentation.
What is Middleware data integration?
A data integration approach using middleware software to allow communication between different systems. Specifically legacy and newer systems.
What is Application-based integration?
A data integration approach using software applications to locate, retrieve, and integrate data by making data from different sources compatible with one another.
What is Uniform Data Access?
A data integration technique that provides a consistent view of data from diverse sources without moving or altering it.
What is common Data Storage?
A data integration technique that retrieves and presents data uniformly while creating and storing a duplicate copy, often in a central repository.
