A
an observational study
- it analyses qualitative data into quantitative data
- using coding units such as categories then counts the number of each category

What is the technique for thematic analysis
A
- researcher reads and rereads data to become familiar and note down ideas
- they will code the transcript by annotating it and reoccurring themes will be identified
- re read transcript to ensure themes are appropriate
- come up with conclusions based on the themes and contextualising analysis in relation to previous reasearch
- once satisfied collect a new set of data to test the validity of themes created

- flexible and produces qualitative and quantitative data
- has high ecological validity as its based on observations
- content can be replicated
- no ethical issues

- observer bias may reduce objectivity
- likely to be culturally biased as interpretaion will be affected by culture of the observer
- could miss certain forms of behaviour reducing validity
