Who was Vladimir Putin?
Vladimir Putin is the current president of Russia. Vladimir Putin was born during the Cold War in the U.S.S.R. He studied law, helped out his home school, and then became president. He was a very good president at first, but then he took a 3rd and 4th term, even though in Russia there is a constitutional limit of 2. After this, his popularity went down, and he is not practically a monarch. The declaration of the “special military operation” is also doing bad things to his reputation as he thought it would be a days till the war was over, but so far it has taken over 2 years since the war has started. Since the Russia-Ukraine conflict, many countries have sanctioned Russia to punish them.
Who was Volodymyr Oleksandrovych Zelinsky?
Volodymyr was, like Putin, born in the U.S.S.R during the Cold War. Volodymyr was an actor and comedian, so even though he is the current president of Ukraine, he has no political knowledge. Since the start of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Ukraine has made many allies that give a constant supply of arms.
What are sanctions?
Sanctions are where one country blocks trade with another country in order to punish the country for breaking international law.
What was the Soviet Union (U.S.S.R)?
The Soviet Union (U.S.S.R) was a superpower that was comprised of nowaday Russia, Unraine, and many other countries. It was formed on the 30th of December, 1922, and dissolved in 1991. The U.S.S.R
What was the Cold War?
The Cold War was a “war” that was comprised of many proxy wars, the space race, and the arms race. It would start in 1947, 2 years after the end of WWII, and end in 1991 when the Soviet Union dissolves. Some of the most apocalyptic scenarios came from time periods inside the cold war, like the Cuban Missile Crisis.
What is NATO?
NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) is an organization where all countries promise to protect each other if any one of them was attacked. NATO was formed after WWII in 1949, and its goal was to defend against the Soviet Union and its eastern-Europe allies.
