All money is pooled and managed equally eg joint account
Leads to more equality in decision making.
When money is not pooled gives men more power in financial decisions.

Very important decisions eg moving, finance, job, husband will have final say.
Important decisions eg about kids adulation or holiday decisions usually made together
Less important decisions eg home decor, clothes, food made by wife alone ( seen as her gender role)
Why do men make the decisions
Men make the decisions cause they normally earn more so women are financially dependent on men.
Gershuny- women who earned more money were more likely yo have greater or equal say in decision making.
Feminists view on decision making
Feminists argue that the inequality’s in decision making are not the result of money but that men being the powerful, dominant one in the relationship and the women being submissive is engrained into society and seen as ‘gender roles.’ Until society is not patriarchal inequality in decision making will remain.
Personal life perspective on money
Not all couples attach meaning of equality or inequality to the partner who is in control of the money and is happy for whoever to manage the money. This is seen mostly in same sex couples. Smart says- this is because they have greater freedom to do what suits them cause there’s no historical gender roles around money for gay relationships that see money as a source of power.
What is The allowance system
Men work and give their wives an allowance to meet the needs of their family.
This is seem in more segregated conjugal family’s and likely for men to make all the decision making as they see money as a source of power.
