Q

What does setting Time Targets mean

A

Set a target clock time for completion (or start) of an activity and then do everything to meet that target. For example, if a certain office work needs to be completed, you should set a target disregarding everything else and say, for example, I will complete it by 12:00 noon. Children should have a target, say for example, of being there for Yoga at 6:30am disregarding everything else. Notice how you can watch a movie for 3 hours with complete concentration. Likewise you have to be able to work on tasks with same concentration and take yourself thru similar emotional ups.

What is navigating the stock fishing boat

A

The stock job is like that of a fisherman sitting on the bridge or the boat waiting for the fish to show up – for the opportunity to happen. Until then you have to just wait patiently with your hook and line in the water. Many times the whole day can pass without any opportunity. When big %changes, and heavy 10K+ trades are not taking place you can spend the whole day accomplishing nothing. If any stocks move, they will do in a spotty manner here and there. Volatility will kill you. During such times, identify strong stocks & trade them across several days – the only way at such times.

From the television shows, to the media reports, to global recognition, India is beginning to breakout, and is being destined to become a world economic super power by 2050. We have a natural advantage because of this, and we should consider EXTENDING ourselves back to India rather than just limiting ourselves to America. There is great hope for the future here, which in past used to be only in America.

Acquire assets such as property in Vasant Vihar, that increase in value in the background over time. Yes there are some activities for managing the asset, but thats a part of the territory. Over time you learn how to do that. The more assets you acquire the more your financial stability. Stocks are also like assets – they are assets that you can very easily get in and out of. These are also a convenient asset unlike property, and do not have any hasseles of property management – provided you can grow the stock asset – then they are great, and really convenient. Whatever career you choose you have to get to the point of making about $250,000/yr in it, because thats what you need for a good life. Also, every job at best is an intellectual pursuit.

52
Q

What is the importance and how should you be monitoring your heart rate while exercising?

A

Monitoring your heart rate while exercising For many years I have tried to build up my physical fitness but have not been that successful. I think the key reason has been not monitoring your heart rate while exercising. When exercising your exertion level should be just right – neither too high nor too low – just right within your aerobic zone. If you exercise at rates higher than your zone you quickly experience burnout, injuries, sore muscles, and mental resistance to exercising. If you do it at lower rates, you do not get the benefits. So exercising at the right level by monitoring your heart rate is most critical. My aerobic heart rate for my current age of 50 is between 130 - 150 (220 - age)*0.8 = 136. The continuous heart rate monitor with the chest strap are the best, they are the only ones that really work, and you can see your heart rate anytime with just a glance. The strapless ones are lousy, they do not give you a continuous display and must be pressed on the edge for 3-7 seconds before the heart rate is displayed – its a pain. I tried these from Walmart, Target, and had to return them all.

53
Q

What is running from your pelvis and not from your knees, and what is the right pose for running

A

Running from your pelvis and not from your knees In running you should maintain an erect posture so that your chest is expanded as much as you can, and the lungs can take in the maximum amount of air – this gives you a boost. Next, the power for the majority of the leg movement below the waist should come from the pelvis area – don’t run from the knees, the entire length of the leg should feel like one piece, one unit, that is moved from the pelvis area, using more of the big muscles in the upper part of the legs. Also, your body column should be inclined slightly forward so that you can get all the benefit of gravity, and your feet should strike under or behind your body NOT in front of the body as many untrained runners do. The right pose in running as described above is very important.

54
Q

Vision for Aneesha (now outdated but many universal things about it still as relevant as before…)

A

Vision for Aneesha The vision of Aneesha for herself has to be that of a most sought after leader in the fashion industry (fashion industry – because that’s the industry she wants to operate in). All the things she does, conceiving the idea of a club, recruiting/selling/starting/running the club, subjects of economics, marketing, getting high grades, socializing, having positive energy, self awareness, overcoming any residual feelings of inadequacy, understanding situational psychology, internship at Target etc, working as an analyst, brand manager … all are to be seen as steps that propel her in some small, yet significant way towards her vision for herself. That is the vision that she should hook up, latch up in her mind, and hold it in her mind at all times, especially when hitting low spots. She has to see herself as holding a leadership position as a senior President in a Target/Macy etc kind of company

Any Company or Institution is a Playground The different company’s you go to work at from IBM such as Uline, BofA, etc., and for that matter IBM itself – they are all playgrounds of ideas – look at them as playgrounds where you engage in one kind of activity or another. Don’t look at them as company’s where you go to work – look at them as playgrounds – everyone of these has its own personality. You also have to provide leadership for each, for its transformation, that is how you add value. Any real, true, lasting, transformation has to occur from the grass-roots level.

64
Q

What is the Teach for America challenge

A

Teach for America Challenge The challenge that Aviran is facing as a TFA teacher is primarily of a behaviourial nature. There are about 10 students out of 30 who are just not interested in studies. They come to school because they can get free breakfast/lunch etc, otherwise they are not invested in themselves at all. They will sit at the back, fight or talk about their gangs, drugs, etc, text on their cell phones, girls will be putting make-up and so on… and all this distraction prevents the teacher from teaching. At the same time TFA and the school district expects the entire class to do well in the periodic, school and state evaluations, otherwise the teacher appears to be in a poor light, and may become the victim of a cut. So the students are not interested, the school expects you to turn them around and come out with flying colors in periodic exams – you are dammed if you try to change the students, you are dammed if you don’t – you are pressed from both ends. If you can not turn the situation around you feel personally inadequate, and that haunts you, and drains you. Aviran has to see himself as getting up and going for battle every day. He has to see himself as a warrior, going to the battle field every day, and coming back in the evening to rest, and go out the door again the next day. That is the only state of mind that can work in this situation.

You have got to be able to differentiate yourself … what does that mean?

A

The fundamental fact, the fundamental reality is that there are 100’s of people competing for every position, every job. You have to be able to show how you stand out. When there are 100’s of people competing for every position, for every job, you have got to be able to differentiate yourself. The whole idea of education, getting a degree, projects, extra activities is to be able to differentiate yourself on the strength of those activities. Q

What is eating Baby Portions to loose weight…

A

Baby Portions To loose weight you have to exercise but you also have to reduce your intake. When all your blood work and numbers are normal (actually perfect – which means there is no fundamental problem) and you are still putting on weight that is because you are taking in MORE than YOUR body needs. Everyone has their own rate at which body functions, there is nothing wrong with you, it is just that your body needs less intake. Rather than think in terms of calories, what you can eat, what you can not, and making this complex, there is a simple way of reducing the intake. Think of the time when you were an infant, toddler, baby, and what portion size was given to you. You should be eating close to that portion size even now when you are an adult – but an adult whose body does not need that much. In general, we all adults eat an excessive amount – and that is bad for everyone. So if you can eat close to Baby Portions or thereabouts you will start to loose weight and you will be fine. Remember, when your blood tests etc are fine, you are normal in terms of those numbers, but your body requirements are less than what you are taking in – so change that to baby portions or near about.
