What is consider to be secondary disease?
Disease is due to a complication or manifestation of some underlying lesion.
What is considered to be primary disease?
Disease has no apparent cause.
Essential: idiopathic, spontaneous, cryptogenic
Distinguish between acute and chronic disease?
Acute: rapid onset followed by rapid resolution. May not recover completely.
Chronic: may follow acute response and have prolonged course lasting months and years.
Distinguish between benign and malignant tumours?
Benign: remains localised and does not spread to other tissues. Rarely fatal.
Malignant: invade and spread from their origin and are completely fatal (metastasis)

Define the following suffixes: Osis Oid Plasia Opathy
Osis- abnormal increase
Oid- baring a resemblance to rheumatoid disease plasia- disorder of growth
Opathy- abnormal state lacking specific characteristics

What is pathogenesis?
Mechanism through which aetiology operates to produce pathological and clinical manifestations
Symptoms of Crushing’s disease.
Obesity, hypertension, thinning of skin that bruises easily. Reddish-purple stretch marks on the thighs, stomach, buttocks, arms, legs or breasts.
Due to too much adenocoticotropic hormone (ACTH).
