what is prejudice
is a preconceived opinion about an individual or a group that is not based on actual experience. it can make relationship with others in the workplace uncomfortable and create a negative experience
when prejudice results in unwanted conduct or less favourable treatment what is it considered?
harassment or discrimination
what is bias?
refers to demonstrating different behaviour or action towards others
for example:
* disvantaging an individual or providing them with less favourable treatment
what is a conscious bias
deliberate
what is a unconscious bias
a result of an individuals life experience that has shaped there views which might not be reasonable or correct
what is direct discrimination
disadvantaging an individual by offerung them less favourable treatment or treating them unfairly in comparison to others because of a protected characteristic
what is positive action
action taken taken by an employer to help or support an individual with a protected characteristic
what is a steryotype
a general or oversimplified assumption, ideas or characterstics which are used to represent a type or group of people; steryotyping a group of people does not reflect the diversity or complexity of the individuals within that group
