what are protected characteristics of age -equality act 2010
age is defined in terms of an ‘age group’. it applies to individuals who belong, or do not belong, to a certain age or an an age range.
Definition of disability by the equality act 2010
someone who has ‘ a physical or mental impairment that has substantial and long-term adverse effect on his or her ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities’. an impairment is considered substantial if the cumulative effects are more than minor or trivial for the individual.

a health condition which gradually gets worse over time
what must employers do for people with a disability - equality act 2010?
places a duty on employers and organisations to make reasonable adjustments to support a disabled individual to access services as easily as a non-disabled individual. therefore, they should think about adjustments they may need to make ahead of time
* physical changes e.g. support assistant dogs
* consideration dietary requirements
* provision of support aids e.g. hearing protection
* individuals should not be asked to pay for the cost of any reasonable adjustment that is made
what is gender recognition act 2004
individuals over the age of 18 have the legal right to change gender and hold rights assosiated with that gender. they may need to obtain a gender recognition certificate to do so
what does the equality act 2010 do to protect people that have gone through gender reassignment?
offers a transgender person protection at all stages. the law currently sets limitations on the characterisitcs on language and terminology, employers should focus on positive inclusion based on the gender role an individual presents.
marriage and civil partnership - equality act 2010 protected characteristics?
protects the rights of anyone who is married or in a registered civil partnership under the civil partnership act 2004. this inludes those who are legally married outside of the UK.

protects individuals from discrimination because of pregnancy and materinity if it occurs during the protected period. this is additional protection offered agaist unfavourbale treatment if an individual is breast feeding.

changes that an employer or an organisation must make to prevent an individual with a disability from being disadvantaged; what factors such as the practicality of the adjustments, the cost and resources required to make the adjustment, and the size and type of organisation

period of time that starts when a woman becomes pregnant and continues through to the end of ordinary maternity leave, or until she returns to work, whichever is sooner
