Clear articulation
Distinct, intelligible, and easy to understand. Involves the lips,lips, jaw, tongue, and velum
Appropriate loudness
Easily heard, not overbearing, appropriate for the environment. Includes intensity (sound level), volume, and projection.
Expressiveness
Animated, well pitched, uses vocal variety, rate of speaking, phrasing, emphasis, contrast
Unobtrusive pronunciation
Appropriate to the speaker, to the area in which the speaker lives, and to the speakers audience.

Vocal folds
Flaps of muscle tissue that lengthen, shorten, tense, or relax. They vibrate to create sound.
Resonance
Fundamental that tells us the pitch of a tone. Process. The quality of the voice that is determined by the balance of sound vibration in the oral, nasal, and pharyngeal cavities during speech.
Resonator
Helps vibrations as a soundboard to reflect and renovate the original sound
Loudness
The attributes of a sound that determines the magnitude of the auditory sensation produced
Articulation
The process by which individuals speech sounds are produced by the tongue, lips, teeth, and soft palate, modifying the outgoing breath stream

Speaking with without varying tone or pitch
Pitch
Highness or lowness of tone or sound
Range
The area of variation between the upper and lower limits
Intonation
Overall pattern of pitch changes in phrases and sentences
Key
The general pitch level – ranging anywhere from high to low – that is used at any given moment in talking or reading
Inflection
Changing pitch within a single, uninterrupted sound
Steps
A pitch change between words or syllables. Voice leaps from one pitch to another, either up or down. Only one tone is used per word.
Stress
Degree of prominence of a syllable within a word
Emphasis
Degree of prominence given to a phrase or thought grouping
Rate
The speed at which a person speaks, the length or duration of sounds, and the length and number of pauses.
Duration
Length or amount of sound
Phrase
A group of related words expressing a thought
Pause
Rest stop
