Akathisia
Involuntary, purposeless movements. Associated with Antipsychotics. Assessment requires a subjective AND objective component.
Thought Disorder
Disorganised speech in the forms of:
Tangential
Thought blocking
Preservation
Poverty of speech…
Thought Blocking
Sudden interruptions in speech, lasting anywhere from a few seconds to minutes.
Dialectical Behavioural Therapy
A form of CBT, Focussed on people with personally disorders. Helps to recognise triggers and employ coping skills.
Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome
A rare but life-threatening ADR to Antipsychotics. Px gets fever, muscle rigidity, autonomic dysfunction and altered mental status. Can be acute or Chronic in onset. CK is generally high.
Mood Congruence
When the affective response to a recalled memory is consistant with the px Mood or mental disorder. Also that the mood (E.g. Happy) brings up matching memories.
Psychosis
An altered perception of reality
