Construction industry
All people/businesses involved in all aspects of the building industry, design teams, plumbers, builders, carpenters etc.
Placement officer
Someone who matches workers/employees with job vacancies.
Feedback
Information or advice/given after the completion of a task/activity/which can be positive or negative/of what can be done to improve future performance.
Interpersonal Skills
Skills we use to communicate and interact with each other.
Covering letter
A letter that accompanies a CV/explains why you should be given an interview.
References
A letter/email/phone call that sets out your suitability/skills/qualities/employment history/from previous employer/personal contact/educational establishment/can be added to a CV
Personnel manager
The person who is in charge of the department that deals with employment/training/support etc.
Mission Statement
An official document that sets out the goals, purpose, values, beliefs and work of a company or organisation.
Stakeholders
This is a person, group or organisation (customers, employees, local community, interests groups, suppliers, investors, government, entrepreneurs)/that has an interest or concern in an organisation/it is anyone who can affect or is affected by an organisation, strategy or project.
Equality of Opportunity
Means that all applicants for new jobs or promotion opportunities are treated fairly/equally with no discrimination (race, religion or example of discrimination).
Entrepreneur
a person who uses their initiative/comes up with a business opportunity/idea, takes the risk and starts a new business with a view to making a profit.
CV / Curriculum Vitae
a document used to apply for a job/used when seeking
employment/showing the personal details, qualifications and employment experience of an individual.
Corporate Social Responsibility
A business practice which involves participation in
initiatives/that benefit society/local community
Diversification
A business strategy which is designed to reduce risk by spotting and exploiting new market opportunities for their products/services by using their existing skills to offer complimentary services or expanding into a completely different market.
Volunteer
A person who works for the benefit of other individuals/particular cause/society without expecting any financial reward for their work.
A Trade Union
An organisation of workers/who try to improve the pay/working conditions of its workers/represent workers in disputes.
A Shop Steward
The worker who represents the union in the workplace.
Contract of Employment
A written document*/between an employer and employee specifying the terms and conditions under which a person consents to perform the work they are employed to do/in return for an agreed wage or salary
Market Research
The collection, recording and analysis of information gathered/allows you to make decisions of how to proceed in business
Innovation
the process of translating an idea or invention into a good or service that creates value or for which customers will pay.
