What are hormones?
Chemical messangers that regualte processes in the body, such as growth, metabolism and mood.
What are target cells?
Cells that have specific receptors for a hormone. The hormone binds to the receptor, initiating a repsonse in the target cell.
What is a micro organism?
A tiny living thing that is too small to see without a microscope- bacteria, viruses, fungi, parasites. Micro organisms can be helpful or harmless.
What is a pathogen?
A germ, like a virus or bacteria, that can cause disease or infection in the body. Pathogens specifically cause disease and infection, like covid-19 or the flu.
Factors that need to be regulated in the body?
- Water levels (maintained through ADH, and filtration in the kidneys)
- Body temperature (regulated by hypothalamus, to ensure homeostasis)
- Sugar levels (regulated by insulin)
