Major depressive disorder (mdd) symptoms
9symp.
1. depressed mood that is pervasive across situation and time.
2.diminished interest in daily activities even the ones that were before enjoyable.
3.significant shift in appetite or/and in weight.
4. insomnia or hypersomnia
5. psychomotor agitation (unintentional movements)
6.fatigue, loss of energy
7.feelings of worthlessness. excessive or inappropriate guilt.
8.indecisiveness, diminished ability to think and or concentrate.
9.suicidal thoughts,idealization, specific plans and attempts.
one of the first two is required and than any four more. symptoms present for more than 2 months.
Dysthymia symptoms
chronic depression
- same 9 symptoms of mdd but less intense
- 2 years(or 1 yr in childhood)+
- can go 2 months without (not consecutively)
- pervasive sadness
- no mdd present or mania atm
Bipolar 1
alternating between MDD and Full Mania. 3+ symptoms of mania required
manic episode
A distinct period of abnormally and persistently elevated, expansive, or irritable mood lasting at least 1 week
1.inflated self esteem, grandiosity
2.decreased need for sleep
3.excessively talkative, pressured speech
4.flight of ideas or sense of racing thoughts
5.easy distractibility
6.increased in goal-directed activity
7.psychomotor agitation
8.excessive involvement in pleasurable but risky behavior
3 symptoms required for bipolar 1
bipolar II 2
one or more major depressive episode
at least one hypomanic episode
no history of a manic episode

Cyclothymic disorder symptoms
chronic
present for at least 2 yrs
-hypomanic and mild intense depression
-not been without symptoms for more than 2 months
Post traumatic stress disorder
anxiety disorder that follows exposure to a severe helplessness or fear inducing threat.
symptoms
1.reexperiences the trauma (nightmares,hallucinations, recollection, disassociate flashbacks etc)
2.avoids stimuli associated with trauma
3.develops a numbing of responsiveness
4.an increased vigilance and arousal.
voice therapy
for treating emotional numbness and detachment in ptsd. because the irritability resonates from childhood voice.
(not for all ptsd patience)
voice therapy steps
awareness of childhood triggers
- rationalize where it came from and collect evidence of whats happening
- talk back to the voice(refute it)
- what is the effect of the voice.
- take action against the voice
identify the voice and define the voice
identify that the voice: the voice is a destructive internal thought process and attitude
define the voice:language of the voice

advantages self dislike
- justifies poor habits
- no risk no expectations
- world is predictable
- get pity and attention
- a norm in the family so you fit in
- keeps you from developing self-defeating pride

disadvantages of self-dislike
- very painful
- life no fun
- leads to psychosomatic symptoms and disease
- creates viscous cycle
