Presenting complaint: difficulty swallowing
A
- Onset + duration
- related to food or liquids, or progression from solids to liquids
- severity of difficulty swallowing + associated aspiration + coughing
- establish the total oral/nutritional intake

Associated symptoms:
A
- neck swelling, when eating / not eating
- abdominal pain
- vomiting
- haematemisis
- change in bowel habit

Systemic symptoms:
A
- weight change
- appetite
- rigors
- fevers
- night sweats
- pain elsewhere
- rash
