Obstructions (Choke)
Etio: obstructed by food masses or foreign objects.
Diagnostic: physical examination, endoscope, x-ray
Treatment: flushing with a feeding tube placed through the nose
Esophageal strictures (Narrowing)
Etiology: Unknown, damage from obstruction
Dx: endoscope
Tx: dietary change, stretching the narrowed region, surgery
Equine gastric ulcers
etio, Cx, TX,
- sore stomach lining.
Etio: Damage from stomach acid & digestive enzyme. excessive NSAIDS use or intake, Helicobacter spp.
tx: Proton-pump inhibitors
Signs observed when there is intestinal obstruction in horses
pain, pace, stretch, kick at its abdomen, roll or vocalize
Colic and its types
Abdominal pain.
1. Impaction colic
2. Gas colic
3. Colon shift
4. Poor blood supply
5. Poor motility
