Distribution Curves Flashcards
(6 cards)
Define normal distribution
-Type of distrubution where the mean, median and mode are equal
(Bell curve)
-it is a precited distrubition when considering an equally-likely set of results.
Describe the features of a normal distribution
-classic bell shaped curve
-the mean, median and mode are all in the axact mid point
-the distribution is symmetrical around the mid point
Define a positively skewed distrubution
-a type of skewed distrubution where the mode is less than the mean
Describe the features of a positively skewed distrubution(right skewed=right foot)
-Top of hill is mode-down slope-median-mean.
-most scores tend to be towards the low end of the score range.
-The few extreme high scores has a strong effect on the mean which is always higher than the median and mode in a PS.
Describe the features of a negative skewed distrubution (left skewness=left foot)
-Top of hill is mode-median-mean
-most scores tend to be towards the high end of the score range
-the mean is lower than the median and mode in a NS.
Define a negatively skewed distrubution
-A type of skewed distrubution where the mode is greater than the mean
