distrubution Flashcards
(4 cards)
1
Q
what are the types of distrubution
A
- normal distribution
- positively skewed distribution
- negatively skewed distribution
2
Q
Normal distribution
A
- median and mode centred around the mean
- mean, median and mode (measures of central tendency) are similar
- bell shaped curve - symmetrical
3
Q
positive skew
A
- curve on the left, tail (the flat part of line) on the right
- mode is lower than mean (the value of the mode is smaller than the mean, e.g. mode is 5 and the mean is 8)
- occurs when the test is difficult/hard
4
Q
negative skew
A
- curve on the right, tail (the flat part of line) on the left
- mode is higher than the mean (the value of the mode is larger than the mean, e.g. mode is 11 and the mean is 8)
