Diuretics Flashcards
(4 cards)
1
Q
How do loop diuretics work?
A
Block the Na/K/Cl co-transporter in the thick ascending limb of the Loop of Henle - also increased Ca, K and H excretion
2
Q
How do thiazide diuretics work?
A
Inhibit NaCl transporter in distal convoluted tubule - increase Ca reabsorption. Can cause profound K loss.
3
Q
How does spironolactone work?
A
“Potassium-sparing” diuretic - Aldosterone antagonist
4
Q
How does amiloride work?
A
Block sodium channels in collecting tubules - potassium-sparing diuretic
