What does ‘multicultural’ mean?
Different cultural groups living together.
What does immigration mean?
People moving from their own country of origin to another country.
What is cultural identity?
Having a sense of belonging to a particular social group and sharing the same values, beliefs and views as them.
Name one group that forms part of civil society.
Family, charities, trade unions, voluntary groups (any one of these)

Family, school, peer group, religion, media nationality, heritage, sexuality, race.

Most are from the Protestant community and believe in maintaining strong ties with Great Britain.

Flags, parades, music, dance, art, language and food.
What are the benefits associated with expressions of cultural identity?
-N.I is enriched by the wide variety of food, language, sport and music that different cultures have brought.
-People can learn about another person’s culture and can develop mutual understanding.
-Greater understanding can help to break down barriers and people can grow in trust and tolerance.
-celebrations of culture can allow people to participate in society and share cultural experiences, which in turn will help promote inclusion and respect within society.
What are the challenges associated with expressions of cultural identity?
-Strong bonds can be created between groups of people who share the same culture. Sometimes, this can lead to a group of people being less likely to integrate with the rest of society.
