Q

What is Equity?

A

Equity recognises that not all employees have been given an equal chance either growing up or as they entered the workplace, whilst equality in the workplace provides employees with equal opportunities (one size fits all). Equity seeks to address that imbalance by ensuring a person has the right tools and support to fulfil their potential whatever their starting point.

Q

What is unconscious bias?

A

How a person thinks can depend on their life experiences and sometimes they have beliefs and views about other people that might not be right or reasonable
Or the associations we hold which are ingrained and outside our conscious awareness or control.

The associations are influenced by attitudes formed from our experience during our upbring and education.

Unconscious biases can be assessed through Implicit Assumption Testing

Unconscious bias can effect how we interact with people

The RICS has signed a Memorandum of Understanding Action Plan (MoU) intended to create a more equitable and inclusive sector in order to be more representative of the society they serve.
