Dna Test Flashcards
(30 cards)
What happens in prophase
Chromatin coils
Nuclear envelope disappears
Centrioles move towards the poles
What happens in metaphase
Chromosomes line up in the middle
Spindle fibers attach to the chromatid
What happens in anaphase
Centromeres split the sister chromatids
Sister chromatids are pulled to the opposite ends of the cell
What happens in telophase
Cytoplasm divides
Nuclear envelope appears
Chromosomes uncoil
What is crossing over
Each chromosome become a part of another
What does tRNA do
Transfers RNA
Brings amino acids for assembly into proteins
mRNA
The messenger
Helps get info out of the nucleus
What is a homologous chromosome
When chromosomes partner up
What is a tetrad
4 chromosomes
You end up with 2 sets of chromosomes
Meiosis
Sexual cell division
End result is 4 cells
What is the product of female meiosis
An egg
What is the product of male meiosis
Sperm
What are the purines in DNA
A and G
What are the purines in RNA
A and G
What are the pyrimidines in DNA
C and T
What are the pyrimidines in RNA
C and U
What is rRNA
Ribosomal RNA
Helps bond amino acid together
What happens in interphase
Cell grows
Centrioles duplicate
Chromosomes are duplicated
What happens in transcription
DNA makes mRNA to get info out of the nucleus
Some DNA makes rRNA (helps bond amino acids together)
tRNA brings amino acid for assembly into proteins
What happens in translation
- mRNA finds a ribosome
- the codon on the mRNA looks for a compliment or anticodon from the tRNA
- the ribosome begins making protein when it finds the codon
What is a nucleosome
A unit of histone proteins and attached to a section of DNA
What is a chromosome
proteins and compacted DNA found in the nucleus
What is a DNA molecule
Made of nucleotides and carries most of the genetic instructions for development functioning and reproduction
What is a purine
A 2 ring nitrogenous base
