TYPES OF DONATION:
- Careful selection and screening of donors is done to ensure the recipient of the blood component will benefit from the transfusion
ALLOGENEIC DONATION
- It is also done to determine:
o If a donation of 450 mL blood at this time would be harmful to the donor
o If the blood collected from the donor at this time may contain transmissible diseases
ALLOGENEIC DONATION
GENERAL DONOR REQUIREMENTS
1. Identification Card (ID) for photographic identification
2. Donor Registration Information - Full name, date and time of donation, address, telephone, age, sex and date of birth
3. Consent form (<16 or 17 years old)
4. Donor’s physiological values should be acceptable or within range:
General Appearance: Appears Healthy
Age: 18 years old & above - can donate
16-17 years old - require written consent from guardian
60 years old and above - may donate at the discretion of the BB physician

Athlete donors =
- In cases wherein donor weighs less than 50 kgs / 100 Ibs, adjustments can be made to the amount of blood to be collected, likewise, the amount of anticoagulant must also be adjusted.
> 50kg or 110 Ibs

≤37.5°C/99°F
≤180 mmHg ; ≤100 mmHg
50-100 bpm
<50 bpm is acceptable
: a unit collected under the same requirements as those for allogeneic donation, except that the unit is directed toward a specific patient
Direct Donation
Safer because it poses no risk of disease transmission, transfusion reactions or alloimmunization to WBCs, RBCs, platelets, plasma proteins
