Drug related effects on monitoring values Flashcards
(12 cards)
What drugs can you administer to help maintain the heart rate?
Anticholinergic drugs
What drug class is Atropine?
Anticholinergic
What drug class is Glycopyrrolate?
Anticholinergic
What does the dissociative anesthetic such as Ketamine or tiletamine do to the heart?
They can also elevate the heart rate
What does the “S” in SLURED stand for?
S = Salivation - Decreased salivary secretions
What does the “L” in SLURED stand for?
L= Lacrimal - Decreased lacrimal secretions
What does the “U” in SLURED stand for?
U = Urinary - Decreased contraction of the urinary bladder and ureters
What does the “R” in SLURED stand for?
R= Respiratory- Dry respiratory secretion, bronchodilation, increased physiologic dead space
What does the “E” in SLURED stand for?
E = Eye Mydriasis (Pupil Dilation)
What does the “D” in SLURED stand for?
D= Digestive System - Decreased GI motility (Equine Colic)
What effect do Anticholinergics have on the heart
Cardiac - Increased HR by blocking the vagal response. In creased CO.
Why is it very important to monitor the cardiovascular system during anesthesia?
Most anesthetic agents depress the cardiovascular system, so the heart rate of an anesthetized patient is expected to be slower than the rate when awake
